Christmas in Hungary
The birth of Jesus, Christmas (December 25) is the most important feast of all Christians. Under Pope Julius I, Christmas was first celebrated in Rome around 337, since than the custom spread to Syria and than to Constantinople. In just a few decades, the practice has expanded over the entire Christian world.
On Christmas Eve, Christians respect few tradition but with no exception:

In the Christmas days work is prohibited in forests or grasslands, the only work accepted is around the house.

At Christmas is forbidden to request or to give loans.

It is forbidden for women to sew, to weave or to wash the dishes, because otherwise a disaster could strike them.

On Christmas Eve if you wash clothes and put it on dry you can brought disease on family.

On Christmas Eve if animals are lying to sleep on the left, means that winter will be long and frosty.

Young girls are watching in the fountain when the evening bells of church ring, in order to see the future husband.

Young boys are not allowed to eat fatty foods, or the future wife will be ugly.

If on the Lent the rooster sing in the middle of the afternoon that means that someone will die in the next year.

If someone died on Christmas, is considered lucky, because his sins will be forgiven.

Christmas Dinner is complete only if it contains the traditional roast pork, baking turkey and the delicious cake with nuts.

Christmas tree is decorated with fruit, cakes, sweets and candles.
