Christmas in England
Children in England do not receive their gift on December 24, but in the morning of the December 25. Letters to Santa Claus, are placed in the Christmas Eve in the fireplace chimney, on the fireplace or the window or in special socks, so be filled with surprise in the next morning.
In December 25 English family gather at the table and eat traditional festive holiday meal: turkey with chestnuts, duck cooked in the oven and the familiar plum pudding.
For a long time in the Christians Eve the only meal allowed on the table was baked duck in the oven.
According to legend, during Christmas of 1588, Elizabeth I served baked duck when she received news that the English army defeated the Spanish Armada.
Another English Christmas tradition is the surprise parcel called cracker, which are given when plum pudding is served.
